Two Blogs Added to DBS

Every Sunday night, if there are updates made to the Dissociation Blog Showcase (DBS), I will post them here.

Tonight, I’ve added two new blogs:

Confessions of a Serial Insomniac

MANY OF US’S PUBLIC BLOG

Please use the DBS link above to access these blogs, and take a look at others already on the list. We are now up to 122 blogs!

As always, be careful and safe. Many of these blogs do not provide trigger warnings, nor are they obligated to do so.

Thanks so much for the terrific response to this project! We’re only just beginning.

Best Tweets For Trauma Survivors at Year End

Best Tweets For Trauma Survivors is another new regular feature (in addition to Favorite Tweetstuff, posted yesterday). I am setting up the mechanism by which I can more efficiently collect tweets for inclusion, and will source from a wider sampling than I present here in my first Best Tweets post.

My selections are entirely subjective, and I know it will never be possible to include every great resource tweeted. But I can try! I’ve personally read all tweeted links, and believe them to be of great value.

I only just joined Twitter in September, so these truly are end of year resources. I’m sure I’ve missed some terrific tweets, so please add your candidates for Best Tweets For Trauma Survivors in the comments.

EDIT TO ADD: All links are now clickable.

"Mind Over Body Phenomenon in MPD"

I just found this YouTube video entitled “Mind Over Body Phenomenon in Multiple Personality Disorder”, made by Dr. Laura De Giorgio of Deep Trance Now. It’s fascinating, and I already live most of this stuff.

It offers a few well-known names in the field to corroborate certain claims of phenomenon observed in their patients, but I wish the website or the video provided more references of substantiation. So often these phenomenon are dismissed as “anecdotal”, as if that makes them not real.

I’m embedding the video here because (1) it is fascinating; and (2) not knowing others have had these experiences makes you feel crazy when it happens to you, especially if you are newly or not yet diagnosed with DID/MPD. You’re not crazy, you’re just you being (all of) you.

I most notice this in myself with my vision. There are times when I read much better without my glasses than with — and they are meant to help me read. Also, I am left- and right-handed, but only to very specific tasks. I throw a ball right-handed; I iron left-handed. I write left-handed, but I must punch numbers on a phone or a calculator with my right hand. I hand-sew left-handed, and crochet right-handed. All of this comports with the habits and pastimes of different alters.

Have you experienced any of this type of phenomenon? Please share.

Blogging Hiatus Was For A Good Cause

Well, time does fly by, especially if you’re dissociative. But I actually remember most of the last month, so that’s not it.

I am oh-so-close to releasing the first draft of my new Dissociation Blog Showcase for which I donated all of my free blogging time (and then some) this last month. I have close to 100 blogs listed now, all authored by people who personally experience dissociation, and blog about its effect and impact on their lives.

Because it’s the area I know well and cherish, many of my first-draft blog selections are written by child abuse survivors. But there is a growing field of war veterans dealing with PTSD, including dissociation. We are more alike than one might initially believe. And we can all learn from each other. I will be adding many more dissociation-related blogs by war veterans to the Showcase in the future.

I have this quirky annoying habit of not being able to finish things. I want them to be “done” and “perfect”, neither of which is ever going to happen here. I have hundreds (sadly, more like thousands) of awe-inspiring blogs left to discover and add to the Showcase. I have Google alerts sending me new ones every day. I can hover over this project forever and it will never be “done”. There, I said it. :)

So this is the post before the post which will provide the link to my new Dissociation Blog Showcase. It’s coming, very soon. And if you want me to include your blog, drop me a note in the comments, or DM me on Twitter @SarahEOlson2009 or email me at sarah.e.olsonATgmailDOTcom .
