One New Blog Added to Dissociation Blog Showcase (DBS)

Special Request: If you find value in this blog showcase, please add the Dissociation Blog Showcase link to your blogroll so others can find it. Thanks!

We have amazing writers amongst us who give insight and hope to anyone struggling with dissociation, or to their loved ones. It’s a brain trust, and I treasure it. When I find new blogs, I update the Dissociation Blog Showcase (DBS) on Sunday evenings. Tonight I’ve added the following new blog:

A Survivor’s Healing Art

Please use the DBS link above to access this blog, and check out the entire directory of (currently) 158 dissociation-related blogs!

As always, be careful and safe. Many of these blogs do not provide trigger warnings, nor are they obligated to do so.

I need your help! If you, or someone you know, experiences dissociation and blog about it, write to me with the URL at

sarah.e.olsonATgmailDOTcom

I review each blog before adding it to the Showcase. Thanks so much for the feedback and well-wishes for this project!

Best Tweets for Trauma Survivors (week ending 07/09/10)

Best Tweets for Trauma Survivors is a weekly Friday feature. My selections are entirely subjective, and I know it will never be possible to include every great resource tweeted. But I can try! I’ve personally read all tweeted links, and believe them to be of great value.

Disclaimer: I am in no way responsible for content found on any other website. Stay safe, and don’t follow links if you believe you might be triggered by them. Also, I will not be re-checking links from older Best Tweets posts, and if the site’s archived URL is different from the one I’ve provided here, you may need to do a search on their site.

Please add your candidates for Best Tweets For Trauma Survivors in the comments.

Int'l Society for Study of Trauma and Dissociation FAQs, etc.

The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (formerly known as ISSD), has a terrific set of FAQ links for anyone interested in dissociation, PTSD, and trauma.

Of particular interest are the following FAQs:

Trauma

Dissociation

Dissociation 101 (resources for therapists who are new to treating patients with dissociation)

See also their annotated bibliographies for each of the Trauma and Dissociation FAQs.

One of the best resources on this website is their Treatment Guidelines for (1) Adults with Dissociative Identity Disorder; and (2) children with dissociative symptoms. These are living documents that have been shaped over the last 15 or so years by their professional membership. When I first saw it years ago, I was profoundly relieved that my therapist, who was not a member, had previously devised a successful treatment course that mirrored these guidelines. It’s good to get that kind of independent feedback.

However, the treatment guidelines may trigger you, if for no other reason than that it’s all laid out for you in black and white, and makes it all much more real, which can be a shock to a fragile survivor. If you have any doubts, proceed with caution. If you are in therapy for dissociative disorders or symptoms, ask your therapist if s/he is aware of the ISST-D’s treatment guidelines, and if not, point them to the link above.

Another helpful aspect of the ISST-D’s website is their Find A Therapist database. They have a high concentration of clinicians who deal with dissociative disorders and trauma/PTSD daily, not only in the USA, but internationally as well. This link takes you to their disclaimer page, where you must accept their limitations that they neither rate nor qualify therapists to practice. You should always do due diligence when seeking a new therapist. At a minimum, verify their credentials and licensing, and check with their licensing board for any complaints filed against them.

The page for their Links for Self-Help is quite good, too, but as of this moment (June 29, 2010) it is being updated, and is unavailable. It may well be available by the time you read this, so give it a try!
