It’s Friday, when each week I gather favorite items from my Twitter stream. This week, wow! The main theme seems to be “spectacle”, and there were several. Enjoy!
@PemaQuotes “Every day we could reflect on this and ask ourselves, ‘Am I going to add to the aggression in the world?'”
@AmazingPics A Space Shuttle on the Streets of Los Angeles
[SEO: The title link goes to a series of great pics of Endeavour as it made its way along a 12 mile route from LAX to its new home. Along the way, stray trees were trimmed, electrical wires temporarily raised or lowered to provide clearance, and the shuttle itself was on hydraulic lifts that also raised and lowered it as needed. You can also view a wonderfully detailed time lapse video here of its journey. What a great spectacle in L.A.!]
@AHMalcolm “Conan: It took space shuttle Endeavor over 2 days to travel 12 miles through Los Angeles. Apparently, it was using the iPhone 5’s Apple Maps.”
@Tamavista “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.” ~ Jack London
@Alyssa_Milano Best Audition tape I’ve ever seen — Henry Thomas’s Audition For E.T.
[SEO: Wow! This kid nailed it. Which, of course, is why he ended up being E.T.’s friend. :)]
@TIMENewsFeed Felix Baumgartner lands successfully after record-breaking 125,000-foot space jump
[SEO: Amazing jump and landing on his feet after free-falling 24 miles. Details and time lapse video (roughly 2 minutes) of the launch of his balloon, his jump, and his landing at the title link.]
@DavidBegnaud 5 MILLION PEOPLE WATCHING LIVE
[SEO: By the time Felix Baumgartner was on the ground it was up to 7 million watching!]
@pourmecoffee Twitter, ladies and gentlemen: 23,000+ retweets of fake Felix Baumgartner account tweet.
[SEO: As of today, there are 29,000+ RTs! Red Bull verified that Baumgartner was not tweeting from space.]
@PsychAlive “We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves.” ~ Francois Duc de La Rochefoucauld
@Politics_PR Oh, joy! “Binders full of women” goes viral (via @Salon)
[SEO: If you didn’t watch the second presidential debate, this gives details on how Romney came to utter that phrase, and debunks the point he was trying to make with it. If you scroll down you’ll see a 21 part slideshow offering what the Internet did with it shortly thereafter.]
@InvisibleObama “Is a binder of women like a ‘plethora’?”
@kiranmanral “Often it does seem a pity that Noah and his party did not miss the boat.” ~ Mark Twain
@pourmecoffee Sunset at Concordia Base research station, Antarctica
