In my Best Tweets for Trauma and PTSD Survivors post this last Friday, I mentioned the T2 Virtual PTSD Experience project newly offered in Second Life to veterans, their families, and friends. I commented that something like this for civilians would be extremely valuable. Well, guess what? It’s already available, and has been since 2009.
I was contacted by Colleen M. Crary, M.A., Founder and Executive Director of Fearless Nation PTSD Support, who rightfully wants it made known that Fearless Nation was first (or one of the first) in Second Life to offer PTSD support in a virtual environment. (And note, their website (link above) is a treasure of PTSD resources as well.)
Other than to make some of her links clickable, I have not amended any of what she sent to me. There are three embedded videos, the first of which is, in my opinion, the most informative. It provides a video view (as opposed to screen shots) of Second Life with a voice-over which details the Fearless Nation Second Life site. The second video appears to be taken from a 2010 Fearless Nation Second Life event with (primarily) DJs making dance music, and the third, while informational, consists entirely of still screen shots of the Fearless Nation retreat in Second Life. There are also links to pertinent information pages on Fearless Nation’s website.
Disclaimer: I do not have a Second Life account, and don’t have the time now to devote to one, so I have not visited this site personally. I’d love to receive feedback from anyone who has been there, or who visits as a result of this post.
Many thanks to Colleen for bringing this to my attention! I invite anyone to send me PTSD resources which you find valuable, and I will do my part to promote them.

Fearless Nation PTSD Support – First in Second Life
I have built and run two PTSD support sims in Second Life since 2009, and the “Psychological Health Island” created by the National Center for Telehealth and Technology, also known as T2, has had representatives visit my sims or islands for the last 12 months, taking pictures and information, and they have imitated many of the offerings I have created there.
I would like my organization to be recognized as the first or one of the first to have made a safe place for trauma patients to recover.
My 501c3 organization, Fearless Nation PTSD Support, has virtual group meetings, events, educational and awareness-raising areas specifically designed and science-based for trauma recovery. You can find out more by seeing our press page and photographs and video of our sims/islands. We help many people with PTSD, their families too, and have been doing so for quite some time.
